OPERATION CANDY CANE…DEC 10

OPERATION CANDY CANE will take place on Saturday December 10, 2016, from 9:00am – 2:00pm.

The Hartsdale Professional Firefighters will spread Holiday Cheer by escorting Santa Claus and

his helpful and friendly elves around the Hartsdale Fire District in a Fire Engine handing out

Candy Canes to all attending children & adults. Printed below is a full list of all Stops & Times

and to make sure that all are at the right location awaiting Santa’s arrival, look out for our

new marker signs as well. Due to the busyness of Santa’s schedule, please allow for some

flexibility with our estimated arrival times. Also, due to safety concerns, we ask that all

children are at the designated locations approximately 10 minutes prior to arrival times to

avoid children running around and near the fire trucks. In the event of inclement weather,

this event will take place on Sunday December 11, 2016. For more information regarding

Operation Candy Cane, updates, cancelations and rain dates, or for more interesting

information about the Hartsdale Fire Department’s services, news, activities, or fire safety

and prevention please check out our website at hartsdalefire.org.

We want to wish everyone a safe and healthy Holiday Season…!

Tax Watch: Hartsdale fire’s undisclosed thousands

Tax Watch columnist David McKay Wilson explores how a citizen activist, our very own President of the PCCA, Mona Fraitag, fought to understand how the Hartsdale fire company spent its ‘2% tax’ money.

Great article about a very important topic if you care about your tax dollars!

REVISED APPLICATION FOR PHASE IN OF TAX HIKES DUE TO REASSESSMENT

REVISED APPLICATION FOR PHASE IN OF TAX HIKES DUE TO REASSESSMENT POSTED–EASIER FORM TO COMPLETE

On Friday I posted an application for those who qualify for the reassessment phase in. Received some e mails, calls from taxpayers who felt that the application was very complicated and onerous. There were some minor errors in the application that was posted on Friday. Thanks to the input of our residents we modified the form and made it much easier. Special thanks to Greenburgh Councilman Francis Sheehan and Town Assessor Edye McCarthy who went to Town Hall on Sunday afternoon and spent hours revising the form. That’s dedication! The new application should not take as long to complete and removes some steps.
Greenburgh and Ossining are the first communities in New York State that have been granted permission by the Governor and NYS Legislature to phase in tax increases for those who are most significantly impacted by reassessment. Our phase laws applies only to those whose assessments will increase by more than 25%. The deadline to complete the application is September 15th and there are income eligibility requirements (one must qualify for STAR-earn less than $500,000 a year). To comply with the NYS requirement that only those without building violations benefit from the phase in – residents who apply must agree to allow an interior inspection.
THE REVISED APPLICATION CAN BE FOUND USING THE FOLLOWING LINK

For further info visit the Assessor’s page on the Greenburgh website: www.greenburghny.com or call the Assessor’s office at 989 1520. Postcards will be sent to residents who the assessor believes may qualify for the phase in. The assessment numbers are not finalized until after the Assessment Board rules on the grievances filed (about 3200) in September.

Application for two year phase in of tax increases for those whose assessment increases are greater than 25%

Please see below for a message from Paul Feiner regarding the two year phase  in of assessment increases. Earlier this week the Greenburgh Town Board voted to authorize a two year phase in of tax increases for property owners who will experience an assessment increase that is greater than 25%. The phase in was authorized by the New York State Legislature (thanks to Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti) and was signed into law by Governor Andrew Cuomo. The application and instructions appear below. Please note that property owners who wish to file must submit the application to the Assessor no later than September 15, 2016.

TOWN BOARD APPROVES 2 YEAR PHASE IN FOR THOSE WHO EXPERIENCE AT LEAST A 25% increase in assessed value of property

The Greenburgh Town Board approved a local law signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo and passed by the NYS Legislature (thanks to the hard work of Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins and Assemblyman Tom Abinanti) that will phase in tax hikes over a two year period for those who have experienced at least a 25% increase in the assessed value of their property. Those who qualify will have to submit an application to the Assessor by mid September. There is an income requirement (must be able to qualify for STAR). And, those who take advantage of the phase in must have no building violations.
The application is being prepared and can be accessed on the town website (assessor’s page) within the next day or two. Ossining, which also is reassessing all properties, is also implementing similar policies. To watch the discussion of the Town Board work session today click on to the link below. Assessor Edye McCarthy discusses the phase in. The goal of the legislation is to help those who are experiencing very large & sudden increases in their taxes as a result of the reassessment. Only those who meet the guidelines and who are experiencing tax hikes will receive them.

Greenburgh Superintendent of Schools named among the country’s top 25 to watch

Dr. Tahira Dupree-Chase, Superintendent of the Greenburgh Central School District, has been named among the country’s top 25 Superintendents to Watch in 2015-16 by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).

She was one of only two New York State superintendents recognized by NSPRA. The honor was announced by NSPRA this week, and the organization said Dr. Chase was chosen for “demonstrating dynamic leadership with a strong emphasis on communication.”

As part of the award, which also was sponsored by the educational technology company SchoolMessenger, Dr. Chase will be profiled in an NSPRA newsletter, which is circulated nationally to organization members, and receive an award certificate. She has also been invited to attend NSPRA’s national Seminar and superintendents’ luncheon, which will be held in Chicago in July.
